How do I obtain a room reservation for Further Confusion 2012?

A Note on Rooms and Room Types
The FC Hotel Staff are eagerly working on really scoping out the rooms at both hotels for you, the attendee. We will post more information about sleep rooms at both hotels, including pictures and other valuable info as soon as possible, so check our website for updates. Further Confusion's hotel staff knows that it is all about the right location, and getting an awesome room to make all of your closest friends (or enemies?) jealous.
We are in the process of documenting the hotel rooms for you in advance, and show you how each room type looks from the inside. We don’t like paying for rooms sight unseen either. There is a lot of valuable information on both hotel web sites. You can visit their online room tours below:
What nights are the Further Confusion rates available at the San Jose Marriott and the Hilton San Jose?
Further Confusion discounted rooms are available at the convention rate from Tuesday January 10th through to Wednesday January 18th, 2012. (The dates of the Convention are Thursday January 12th to Monday January 16th, 2012)
Is it true the hotels no longer offers smoking rooms?
Both hotels have a smoke free policy. Designated smoking areas are available outside of the building.
Where will the Fursuit rooms be?
The Fursuit floors will be located on the 5th - 7th floors of the San Jose Marriott.
What kind of rooms will there be on the Fursuit Floors?
There are many room types of rooms available for Fursuiters. This includes Junior Suites, ADA rooms, and both room types (Kings and Double Doubles).
How do I reserve a Fursuit room?
Further Confusion will no longer be requiring potential party hosts to fill out an additional web form as done in previous years.
This is done as part of the reservation process, either through online reservation form or by phone. When asked to provide an access code, enter the fursuit / costume floor code: FURCONC.
If you use the reservation link, please make sure to check the code. If a code has already been provided for you in the form, it may be the general code (which won't be a fursuit room). Again, check the code you are using, and ensure the Fursuit floor code (FURCONC) is being used. Reservations for these floors will be taken on a first come first served basis.

Where will the party floor be?
The party floor will be located on the 4th floor of the San Jose Marriott Hotel.
What kind of rooms are there on the party floor?
Many of the rooms available on the party floor are King bed rooms. There are some doubles available, but they are limited in supply. There are currently no suites being offered on the party floor for parties
How do I reserve a Party room?

How do I obtain a Room in a Quiet Section of the Hotel?
You can request this in the notes section of the online registration form, or by asking the operator if you make your reservation by phone.
How do I reserve a Suite?
You may select a suite of any type, for any hotel, at the time of reservation. However, these rooms are considerably more expensive per night than regular rooms (plus applicable taxes), and the numbers of suites are very limited.
How do I make sure that I get two beds in my room when I arrive at the hotel this year?
Make sure to select this room type at the time of reservation. Rooms with two beds will go quickly, so make your reservations early.
Will there be an overflow hotel/motel set up for attendees of Further Confusion?
Reservation details for our overflow hotel (the St.Claire) will be announced when necessary. All overflow hotels will be within short walking distance from the Fairmont. The St.Claire hotel is directly across the street from the San Jose Marriott.
Can I bring live animals to Further Confusion with me?
Further Confusion welcomes official service animals wherever their help may be needed. Please ensure they are wearing a service vest / jacket, or are clearly marked or identified as such. It is always a good idea to retain any documentation necessary to establish identification.
Pets (non-service animals) are not permitted in the food service areas or restaurants due to public health laws.

The Hilton San Jose is dog/cat friendly and welcomes up to one pet per room. Each dog must weigh less than 75 pounds and must not be left unattended at any time. Additionally, a fee (non refundable) of $75.00 will be required and any damages done to the room will result in additional charges.
The San Jose Marriott allows one pet of up to 50 pounds per room with a deposit of $70 per room.

Is there shuttle service between San Jose International Airport and the hotel?
There are NO FREE shuttles from the airport, but there are shuttle services available. Here are some:

What is the charge for parking at the San Jose Marriott and the Hilton San Jose ?
The Marriott San Jose offers valet parking only for a limited number of vehicles. The current cost is $26.00 for overnight valet parking with in and out privileges; The Hilton San Jose offers self parking for $19 a night and Valet for $24 a night both with in and out privileges: parking rates are subject to change without notice.
Are there any other parking options in the area?
There are several other lots and garages in close proximity to the hotel that may be a less expensive option. Notably, the Convention Center Parking Garage offers parking for $12/day (open 24 hours), but NO in/out privileges. This parking garage is attached to both hotels and the Convention Center. Really, this is our best recommendation for parking during the convention.

Is there any deadlines for making special hotel requests?
Requests are granted on a first come, first served basis. Please make any special requests as soon as possible.
I was able to book some rooms at the con rate and another at full rate, will you be able to convert them to the con rate.
No, this will not be possible. Please book your reservation as soon as possible within the block to get the Con rate.
Will you have a waiting list for regular rooms at the hotel?
A waiting list will not be available.
Can I sleep in my car/truck/camper at the hotel?
No, this is not allowed.
Using a debit card - charges and holds
Debit cards (for example, an ATM card with a VISA logo) work very differently than credit cards, and could result in you being unable to access funds in your checking account, both during the convention and up to 14 business days after the convention. For the most accurate information, please contact your financial institution.
Will the executive concierge / breakfast be available if I reserve an executive room at the Hilton ($143)?
No, unfortunately the Hilton will not be providing this amenity during the convention. The Executive Lounge will be closed January 12th-16th, 2012. For the Executive level rooms, there will be no additional benefits with the execption of upper floor rooms an in-room amenities. The upgraded rooms still feature floor to ceiling windows for fantastic views at the top of the building, access to the business center and fitness room, as well as upgraded amenities in room.
The hotel system says there are unavailable dates for my reservation. What gives?
The day(s) listed as unavailable are currently sold out. The Further Confusion Hotel staff is kept up to date on sold out dates and room types. As this occurs (and sometimes it occurs very quickly) the reservations people work with us to provide more rooms. We will do everything we can to keep our dates open, however, eventually, they will sell out.
I don't see a place to enter the codes on the reservation page. What do I do?
This issue should be resolved. The hotel system had a slight mishap upon opening the block, and it was corrected as soon as possible. If you have made a reservation under the general code FURCON and would like a party or fursuit floor room, send us your confirmation number and *real name* as listed on the reservation. We will forward your request to the reservations team and they will work with you to make your arrangements. Requests for those rooms will be based upon the order in which the original reservation was received, even if it was under the wrong code.
If all else fails, you may email us at with your real name, reservation number and request, and we will work with you to find a solution.
How will the non-refundable deposit for reserved hotel rooms work?
This year, after you have made your reservation you will be charged for one night's stay on your card as a non-refundable deposit. This tough decision is necessary to help mitigate room holds that are released shortly before the convention start date and after the room block has closed. Conventions such as ours are granted concessions and program space based on how many rooms are filled over the course of the convention. Once the room block is closed if someone releases interest in a room it counts against our room block. If enough rooms are released which has happened, the convention is liable for those rooms and must pay for them. The costs can be very high which can diminish the ability of Further Confusion to offer world class amenities to our deserving attendees.
The San Jose Marriott will charge for one room night and tax immediately upon reservation.
The Hilton San Jose will charge this deposit on the 1st of the month following the reservation.

I have a package I need to mail to the hotel. Where do I mail it, and is there a cost?
If you are sending a package to either hotel the instructions are the same. Address the package to yourself, putting the word 'Guest' in parenthesis and then shipping it to the address of the hotel.
