All costumes and wardrobe appearing on-stage and on video must be suitable for a general audience. Costumes must meet the guidelines established in the Public Behavior Rules found in the Further Confusion 2009 Program Book and on the website.
The show content is rated equivalent to US MPAA PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned: Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Any questionable content and behavior is subject to approval by the FNL Lead. In particular, excessively vulgar language, blatantly sexual situations, bondage and BDSM gear is considered unacceptable. Collars and leashes may be worn discreetly or if their use is a necessary part of the act. If in doubt, ask, and ask early.
NO throwing of items from the stage. This is a potentially dangerous situation and we are concerned for the safety of our performers and audience
NO advocating, opposing or depicting of any political, religious or social issues. Furry Night Live is not to be used as a political soapbox
Stage Performances may consist of individuals or groups. Acts are encouraged to fit the FC 2009 Theme: Surf Safari, but it is not required
Stage Performances are limited to two (2) minutes for individuals, three (3) for two performers, and four (4) minutes for three or more performers. Video Acts are limited to three (3) minutes. Additional time is subject to approval by the FNL Lead
Entrants may either register for FNL by e-mailing the Lead/Director, or in person at the convention. Registration deadline is the start of Saturday’s Dress rehearsal. It is highly recommended that interested participants join the FNL discussion list as soon as possible as the show may fill up and to address any special A/V or Stage needs
Entrants will fill out an FC 2009 FNL "Participation Form" to assist the FNL Lead, the FNL Stage Director, the FNL Stage Ninjas, and the A/V Technicians in running the show smoothly. This form is available in advance (through the FNL Lead via e-mail), or at the Dress Rehearsal
Video acts must be applied for prior to the convention. Screening by the FNL staff prior to the convention is encouraged so as to allow for edit for content or rating
Video acts should be submitted on DVD with the following authoring guidelines:
First play should be a slate (menu) with the name of the act, run time, and a single button called 'CUE'
The 'CUE' button should link to a menu that is totally black except a tiny button on the bottom, 'PLAY', which leads to the video track
End jump for the video track should point at the all black menu with 'play' on it
The Dress Rehearsal on Saturday grants main stage time for show participants. Acts will be reviewed by FNL staff and any A/V issues should be addressed here. For those who have a desire to perform but have no act/skit to perform in, we will attempt to place you in an act/skit that the FNL Staff has written, or place you with a troupe that has need for a performer. Additional forms specifically for the Stage Manager, Host and A/V will be submitted here
The Tech Rehearsal on Sunday prior to the show is mandatory for all show participants. Missing this rehearsal will result in being dropped from the show lineup
Prerecorded audio should be in CD format, one CD per act, one track only to be played at time index 0:00. CD-RWs are not allowed. MP3 or other digital format must be addressed at Dress Rehearsal, in order to be ready for Tech Rehearsal. Digital media is strongly discouraged, and a CD should be provided if at all possible. Performers should make every effort to obtain music in its original format as MP3s and similar sources will reproduce poorly.
Entrants who have any audio that is to be played as part of their performance are required to have it available at the rehearsal on CD with your name (real or furry) and the name of your act/skit plainly visible on the medium.
Wireless microphones, chairs, tables, a podium, and an easel will be available for stage use
Special requests, such as unusual staging requirements, video, lighting, or equipment requests may or may not be honored, depending on staff or equipment availability, safety, or compatibility. Ask in advance!
Flash photography will be allowed at all times during FNL
These rules are subject to further revision
If any rule listed here contradicts a Convention rule laid down by the Further Confusion Staff, the Convention rule will apply
The enumeration of these rules does not constitute the entirety of the FNL rules. Situations that are not explicitly covered here should be brought to the attention of the FNL Lead/Director and will be reviewed by the Lead/Director and Further Confusion Staff
All decisions made by the FNL Lead/Director regarding the FNL are final
Judged Performance of Stage and Video Acts
First and Second Prize for Stage and First Prize for Video will be awarded based on audience ballot for the Stage and the Video category. If there is only one video for competition, the voting categories will be combined and First, Second and Third Prizes Overall will be awarded.
Participants may choose to not have their acts/skits judged
Video acts for competition must not have been previously shown at another convention, film festival or online video site (YouTube, Google Video, etc)
Late entries will not be accepted in the show therefore it is important to attend the Rehearsal
