Welcome to the Wonderful World of Greyhounds! Not the greyhound bred for show: rather the greyhound bred for racing... and therein lies the difference.
Your greyhound is a member of one of the most ancient and prestigious breeds of purebred dogs known to man. This is one of the oldest and most noble breed of dog. Greyhounds can trace their ancestry back over 4,000 years to the time of ancient Egypt, Persia and Greece, and are in fact, the only breed of dog mentioned in the Bible (Proverbs 30:29-31). In ancient Egypt, greyhounds were mummified and buried along with their owners who had their tombs decorated with greyhound figures.
The greyhound has appeared in art and literature throughout history. Greyhounds have long been associated with royalty, a favorite of nobility, from Pharaohs and Arabian sheiks to the Kings and Princes of Europe. For many years, only those of royal birth were permitted the honor of owning a greyhound. Golden State California Greyhound Adoption is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to maximizing greyhound rescue and greyhound adoption of retired racing greyhounds in Northern California and particularly around the San Francisco Bay Area.
By educating the public on the plight of the retired racing greyhound, we find great homes for these loving companions.

The SWCC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping native California wildlife survive in an increasingly urban environment. The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center was incorporated in October 1984. It was started by eight people working out of their homes When these eight people started, they thought that they would only get 100 animals their first year. They received nearly 300 animals that year. Within a year, the Center was based in a garage in Turlock.
In January of 1987 the Center moved into a mobile home and chicken barn in Ceres. In 1990, we received an eviction notice because the school district wanted the land to build a school where we were located.
By October 1992, SWCC was able to move into a remodeled building at Fox Grove Fishing Access, a fishing park along the Tuolumne River near Hughson. They have a long-term lease of the land with the County and State agencies.
The SWCC is not funded by any government agency. It depends solely on public contributions to pay for the many expenses they face. The SWCC is a nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible as the law allows. The Center is grateful for all contributions.
